Just a few weeks back a friend of mine calculated that Pakistan can return all its debt in 5 years if only the top 20 richest people of Pakistan start paying Zakat (@2.5%) annually.
The 2.5% means that if a person has 40 billion dollar as his savings kept for one year, then he is bound by law to pay 1 billion dollars at the end of the year as zakat. No wonder why Islamic Shariah is hated so much.
If I try to view the situation around me, with the prices going up so high, what would a common mazdoor be doing to survive? It's quite unimaginable. Almost no one is paying Zakat. Not to mention Zakat on Gold, escpecially on women jewellery :-(
It is in the Quran for the momineen:
They set aside a due share in their possessions for the beggar and needy
If everyone of us sets a known figure (percentage) of his income to be spent on the poor (5%, 10%, 15% or even more), it will do everyone a lot of good, and might help the economy/business as well.
