Quick Launch Navigation missing from SharePoint Web part page

2. April 2009
When you create a new web part page in SharePoint, its left navigation column becomes empty. Reason for this is that the left side navigation is defined in the Master Page using "PlaceHolderLeftNavBar" content place holder and templates for Web Part Pages shipped with SharePoint override this content place holder and delete its content, thus displaying empty left navigation.
The solution for this is to change the page so it will not override the menu place holder, but inherite it from the Master Page. The place holders we are interested in are:
"PlaceHolderLeftNavBar" and "PlaceHolderNavSpacer"

Just open Sharepoint Designer and:
1. Open the web part page you want to add the menu to
2. In Code view, look for the following lines and delete them:

<asp:Content ContentPlaceHolderId="PlaceHolderLeftNavBar" runat="server"></asp:Content>

and

<asp:Content ContentPlaceHolderId="PlaceHolderNavSpacer" runat="server"></asp:Content>

Save the file. You will get a warning saying you are about to customize the page. Just go ahead and open that web part again. It should have that good old left navigation.
Hope this helps!

I bought this handset today and it's easily the most impressive phones i have gotten the pleasure of using. Oddly there were quite a few families at Sprint when i picked up my new evo. it is so fast and responsive. The  processor is more economical in comparison to my hero. you can find a good <a href="http://htcevoreview.com">htc evo review</a> online!!! luckily 4g is in my market.

This fix worked for me on many pages. Thanks!

However on meeting workspaces, the new PlaceHolderLeftNavBar has content in it. If I delete the whole thing I remove the new content. If I take out the tags or the attribute only I get an error. Any ideas?

This did not work for me.... Does it matter that I am in a wikipage rather than another format in Sharepoint for my subpage?  I deleted what you recommended above... however, it did not make any changes.  I still cannot see the left navigation column.  help...?
